Fitur format D-SLR D700 diperkenalkan pertama kali oleh D3, sangat membanggakan untuk fitur yang luar biasa, D3 di disain untuk level baru bagi kemampuan profesional dalam kaitan dengan keseluruhan kualitas foto, noise rendah luar biasa, sensifitas ISO, pengambilan gambar kontinyu berkecepatan tinggi, gradasi warna, gambar tajam, tahan cuaca, sistem yang beragam dan banyak lagi.

D700 yang baru ini menyediakan sederetan fitur performa tinggi yang dalam banyak hal dapat dibandingkan dengan D3. Pada saat yang sama mendapatkan berbagai keuntungan termasuk fungsionaitas, fleksibilitas dan kemudahan pengoperasian lebih dari D300, pimpinan DSLR DX format dari Nikon.

D700 memiliki segalanya untuk memuaskan kebutuhan fotografi dalam spektrum yang lebih luas. Sensor CMOS format FX 12.1 megapixel dengan area sensor 36.0 x 23.9 mm; dengan ISO 200 sampai 6400; pemotretan kontinyu mencapai kecepatan 5 frame per detik (dapat mencapai 8 Fps dengan Multi-Power pack MB-D10 tambahan; ekslusif Nikon sistem AF 51 point; sistem pengenalan untuk mengoptimalkan auto fokus, auto exposure dan auto white balance.
